I ended up in the hospital for 2 days receiving 2 grams of Solu-Medrol to save my brain and my life. I survived, they collected my stem cells successfully, and I am home in the apartment recovering. Thank God for Theresa, who realized just how sick I was and got on the phone to the transplant doctor.
By the time they hooked me up to the pheresis machine to collect my stem cells, I was feeling well enough to watch makeup application videos on YouTube :-)
Elaine Caldbeck, the priest from the Cathedral of St. James, has been wonderful to me. I knew the transplant would have an enormous physical effect on me. I am surprised that it is having emotional and spiritual effects as well.
I am still processing what this first part of the transplant has been like: I did not expect bizarre pregnancy tests, nearly dying from the disease, or so much kindness and generosity as have come my way!
