The transplant took every ounce of strength, courage, and determination I possess. I sit here, a survivor, and am amazed at what I came through. Recovery is slow. I see improvement, though: I can walk two blocks now. I had a disease flare when I tried to reduce my prednisone dose Oct. 1. I am still feeling the effects of that, and will stay at the current dose of prednisone for a while. The flare doesn't mean the transplant didn't work: it takes time to go into remission--sometimes as long as 2 years.
