Monday's the Big Day

Monday morning I will go into the hospital for 24 hours to get a huge dose of Cytoxan chemo (4 times the normal cancer treatment dose). I wonder how pukey this will make me? I have high hopes of passing the time in a haze of anti-nausea medicine! This truly marks the beginning of the transplant. It seems counter-intuitive to give a drug that destroys stem cells, but here is how it works. The body responds to this destruction by making vast numbers of new stem cells.

My friend, Theresa, is arriving this afternoon. She'll look after Sophie while I'm in the hospital, and she'll look after me once I'm back in the apartment recovering from chemo. Sophie has discovered the only squirrel in Chicago and is busy plotting his demise.
